Do you remember your first football road trip?

West Virginia makes their first trip to Lubbock in over 74 years for their Inaugural Big XII game in Jones AT&T Stadium this Saturday. Let's get loud and show the Mountaineers how tough it is to play in Lubbock. Which got me thinking...

Do you remember your first football road trip away from the Jones? Did you Gig 'Em in College Station? Drive to Fort Worth to feast on Horned Frog? Travel to Austin for the classic Football Game-6th Street combination (in which case, you may not remember much)?

Tell us about your first football road trip and you could win one of our limited edition Homecoming/Inaugural Game shirts in your size. Winners will be notified by email, so be sure to include your address. Five winners will be selected before Friday at noon, so get your stories in soon.

Also, don't forget to look for your official Road Trip tee in stores next week.  Essential gear for the Red Raider making the journey to Fort Worth next weekend to take on TCU. Guns Up!

Giving Back

About two years ago, while we were sitting down with Baron Batch (former Red Raiders running back, now with the Pittsburgh Steelers), discussing how Red Raider Outfitter could support his cause, Second Hand Images. He questioned us on what we have done in the past supporting other charities and Texas Tech. He said he had no idea what all we have done and should share it with others:

Back in 1975, two Texas Tech alumni had a vision to start a business that would positively impact Lubbock. Since that time, Red Raider Outfitter has grown into over 20,000 of retail space and are able to support countless campus organizations and created many scholarship opportunities for students. Since 2006, Red Raider Outfitter has generated and contributed more than $2.8 million to Texas Tech University. Over the years, Red Raider Outfitter has supported various Sports Camps put on by Coach Sharp and Coach Dickey, and supported Coach Spike Dykes in other projects. Before Raider Red became part of the Texas Tech Athletic Department, Red Raider Outfitter paid for the travel expenses for Raider Red to attend Bowl games. We also outfit the Masked Rider regularly with the latest fashions found in our stores. Back in the eighties, the Saddle Tramps and Red Raider Outfitter were instrumental with the 'Saving of the Barn' initiative, one of the oldest buildings on campus. Back in the nineties, Red Raider Outfitter coined the phrase "Wreck 'Em Tech" for a t-shirt, and today it is an important part of the Texas Tech culture. These are just a few of the endeavors we have participated in helping Texas Tech University and the Athletic Department.

Recently created and paying tribute to our armed forces, the Red Raider Outfitter Military Scholarship provides financial aid to four Texas Tech candidates selected from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines.

This year alone, Red Raider Outfitter has presented more than $18,000 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation through promotions such as the “Raiders Against Cowboys and Cancer Pink-Out”.

Also this year, Red Raider Outfitter has raised $6,000 for The Ronald McDonald House through the Quarterback S.A.C.K. promotion, to help the families of critically ill children in local hospitals.

Last year, fans were encouraged to bring in canned food to benefit the South Plains Food Bank in order to take advantage of Black Friday promotions.

Using Facebook, Red Raider Outfitter has donated to The Haven Animal Care Shelter of Lubbock, helping local animals receive care and good homes.

Red Raider Outfitter also partnered with Baron Batch, former Texas Tech running back, in his philanthropic efforts. In proud partnership with Batch’s organization, Second Hand Images, we are helping sponsor Haitian children attend school.

As the top collegiate retailer of Under Armour apparel in the United States, Red Raider Outfitter participates annually in the Wounded Warrior Project, benefiting the wounded Veterans of our nation.

Since opening its doors, Red Raider Outfitter has helped more than 4,000 student-employees through school. On any given Saturday, you’re sure to find excited Tech fans lining the walls of Red Raider Outfitter, but the story of our passion behind the traditions and excitement often remains untold. When you shop at Red Raider Outfitter, you make a difference. It’s more than just your favorite shirt– it’s a way of life.
